fuel pumps should be the same. or just buy a newy. they're cheap. when it was timed was the car put into diagnostic mode? if not the timing will be wrong

a mate is a mechanic an he came an changed it, the one that was in it was pretty f**ked..how do i check the coil? will the coil from a ford futura 93 fit it?

the coils should be a swap over, about a foot behind the distributor and a bugger to change, from under the car up,and they die like a flash.i drove one 15 ks for a pinkslip and turned it off, dead on restart--coil.ok with a new one 2hrs later, had to go buy it and fit it.tfi module is similar to the coil, they die the same,i had them in xfs,eb and now ef v8s.i had 2 die in the v8s and each time its a tow truck, close to home.your tfi is swapable, you may need a small torx screw driver, ford use them on tinker proof parts.have your mechanic chech them both and spark plug leads.was the motor hot or cold for its bath,if hot you will get very heavy condensation under the cap that will short out the plugs or miss fire. came in late,if it worked before the bath---timings out

did you take the cap off with the leads or removed the whole distributor?if is the cap only it may have water under it-use tissues to dry it,if removed it will need to be retimed.watch your battery and dont flatten it,anything under 12volts it wont start.

Yeah if it backfires you're not timed...

Not hard to get it half right...

Someone may have to correct me... But Don't you get it to 10BTDC firing no.1 and then line the rotor in the dizzy up with "start" insert it and it should line up with "finish"?

If you do that it should at least start... Then put it into diag mode and fine tune the timing...

My car does the same and it is not the dizzy... Because we've checked it and it never gets any moisture in it...

I bet it is my coil... Because they get hair line cracks in them and the water causes them to short out... A spark may still be present at the end of the lead but may fail under compression... You can only really test it with a High Energy Ignition (HEI) test plug because these have a huge gap which compensates for the compression present in the cylinder... If it stopped after being washed it will not be your fuel pump... I'm leaning towards spark and now timing...

Cheers,
Tim

if the car is at home ,can you get a hair dryer or heat gun to the motor to dry the plugs - leads and distributor,it will remove any water.miss firing could be water or timing.you havnt said if you removed the cap or the whole distributor.you have to un do a bolt\clamp that holds the whole distributor inthe motor, the cap has 2 clips to hold it on tight.

hmmm, sounds like timing - but I'm wondering - the `top bit' is the distributor cap, if you guys replaced that AND leads (either way really) you may have the firing order (i.e. which lead goes to which plug) wrong - even having a few wrong might cause `nearly starting / backfiring' or even not running at all...

ok,you havnt changed the timing with the cap change, but the spark leads have to be right\position in the cap and the right firing order on the rotation of the rotor button, under the cap.if leads are wrong it will back fire.check all the vacuum hoses, they may have blown off and the air box in take, also a map sensor on the fire wall-black,bigger than a match box,it will have wires and a vacuum hose, make sure their on.other wise its still wet.
