Hi everyone
Im new to the forum.

I have been reading with interest about the alted cams, and have been thinking of getting one for my ef xr6 5sp.

Are there any reliabilty and durabilty issues with running regrinds as opposed to billets? What sort of milage can you expect from a regrind and more specifically these alted cams.

Its just i have been told its best to pay the extra coin for a billet jobby rather than take the risk with regrinds and shims.

Cheers
Tim

most people on the forums with aftermarket cams are REGRINDS. mine is and ive been running it for over a year without any problems.

Regrind cams have there downsides, but they do work ok (heaps of people use them). Some cam grinders don’t like to do regrinds for the larger profiles while others are happy to.

Small regrinds will take 40+ thou out the base circle and add 80 thou worth of shims in the rocker arms. There is no denying that the angles are being moved around, and that valve train components will start getting loaded more in some dimensions, but so far I haven’t heard of any problems. I still wouldn’t use any large size profile on regrinds in my engine.

The shims installed at the factory are no problem because the valve geometry is calculated with them being there.

thanks for the replies.
stockstandard- so what size limit of profile(if that makes sense) until youd start having drams?

cheers
