maybe the au eqivilant to the 1673 with 114 lobe centres might be better??

wade list the 1673 as, more power than 1636, with better idle and more torque than 977b..
and there 1636 is, low to mid range power... :|

....s**t why didnt i do that!!

I reckon Id have to speak to Chris about what blend he could do for me with those grinds. It will be a delicate process. But getting it right would be top priority for me. I really dont wanna chuck in any cam and then have to spend more on diff gears and stall if I could have avoided it.

Can you compose a custom grind?

sure you can. custom grinds are common with all manufacturers. Will cost a bit more to program it in and set it up, but you certainly have that option of a custom grind if you ask. Just because there is a popular profile from the list given, doesn't mean you HAVE to get that. If you have a unique setup, cam grinders will cater for that.

yeah am leaning that way. If Chris from wade can come up with a 1673 style cam with a 114LSA that doesn't hamper my bottom end, but at the same time increases mid range and top end to redline, I will be very happy.

Goodluck mate! :)

Thanks mate, this will only happen after I get my exhaust done first.

Just sent an email to Keith at Wade Cams about what Im looking for cam wise.

He reckons based on the info I gave him. The AU390 grind is a much better profile than the 1673 AU equivalent.

Here are the specs:

Cam Lift
In 278
Ex 278

Dur. Adv.
In 258
Ex 254

Dur @ 050
In 201
Ex 195

Valve Lift
In 0.5004
Ex 0.5004

LiftTDC
In 034
Ex 028

Phase angle
114.5

Intake and Exhaust Centreline is both at 114.5
Duration is at the lobe

He has quoted the rocker ratio as 1.8. Arent the AU2's 2.0 r/r??? Can someone confirm?

What do you guys think of this grind based on the above specs?

it looks like a nice in between cam. slightly smaller than the au1645.
almost like an au version of the 1673..

that's good. I basically said that I needed something that would work without a converter and shorter diff gears. So from what I can tell the lsa of 114.5 was set to take into consideration of the auto. Hopefully this will give a nice increase

i have the 1673 with 114 lsa in my car.
has more power and torque down low than the standard cam...
you only feel like its sluggish down low compared to the power surge that comes higher in the revs.

its a good cam though, would be great with some head work and high comp, im only using a standard engine and exhaust manifold lol

Stock headers?

my Tuner/mechanic says doing headwork on a blown engine is a waste of money for me. He suggested an au1 head with a good cam like the one I got quoted with will be best. He reckons the au1 heads have better castings from factory and flowed a bit more than the series 2 & 3 heads. I have a reconditioned au1 head ready to fit when my current one dies so will see if this myth is plausible or busted.

by the sounds of your 1673 it sounds perfect. So hopefully this au390 grind will really show its worth.
