Hey guys newbie here so bare with me. I recently had stage 4 atomic camshafts put in my n/a fg xr6 and after almost 2 full days of frustrating tuning it made almost no kw gains ,it made good tourqe in the midrange but that's it and that was more from the new exhaust setup than anything else. It was tuned at one of the most respected ford tuners around so I know that's not the problem. The car also is running a 2 1/2 inch custom built high flow exhaust with 100cell cat.

Atomic reckons there is something mechanically wrong with the car but I have it regularly serviced and I keep the engine in emaculate condition and only use top quality products , it never leaks a drop of anythig all seals and hoses are in top condition.also its only got 80 thou ks on it. But more than one tuner I have spoken to reckon that the atomic stage 4 cams are not "that crash hot". And recommended a different brand ( a bit to late for me now). But I would still expect some noticeable gains but It just reals off 160 rwkw every time no matter how many changes to the tune. Any one else had or heard of this problem with these cams. Or any ideas of what's wrong would be much help . Is it just possible I got a dud engine.

some engines respond different to others, did the tuner have any suggestions??
if the tuner is good at what he does he should be able to point you in the right direction..
for a tuner to just blame the cams without some investigation tells me he don't really care...
who fitted the cams??
maybe a twin 2.5" exhaust or single 3" could help but I think there is more to it then that..

Those twin cams flow alot of air, is 2.5'' big enough?

Yes any decent tuner should be able to say whats choking it up/holding it back...

Have you thought of taking it to another dyno for independant testing?

And how does the car drive, how does it feel... dyno's can say any number the operator wants but at the end of the day its how it drives/accelerates/feels that matters.

If you reckon its the cams and your not happy wack the old ones in and then go back to the dyno. If its still producing the same numbers or better than when the atomic cam's were in call atomic with those details.
Of course its going to be your fault and not the cam's. If it works out to be the cams they would have to come up with a solution ( refund, replacement etc), but the more times you f**k around with the car with the atomic cams in your making the return of the cams a no go and then its your problem. I did notice too atomic doesnt give any figures to prove their cams will produce anything on their site.

Hey thanks for the suggestions guys. The installation and tuning was all done at the same place. By joe at crescent Motorsport. And I've never heard anything negative about them. And if the was something wrong with the engine he would have found it hopefully while the engine was apart a told me so he wouldn't waste his time. He has gone so far above and beyond The call of duty trying to sort it out spending days on it and not charging me cos he just not happy with it. Yeah I am now a little put of that atomic wont pos any figures for the cams. But in saying that if the cams where that bad they would be going out of business or something. A couple of tuners said that once in a blue moon they come across a car that just doesn't respond properly to tunes or mods I might just be unlucky.

I think putting the stock ones back in and re tuning to see what it pulls is the way to go. I know dynos are just a tuning tool and not to take the numbers to seriously but the way it drives on the road I know there is something not right. Thanks for you input guys

That is really unusual, that those cams didn't do squat.
What if those cams were a "miss grind" ????, or were packaged incorrectly as Stage 4 cams and are really "Towing" cams ???
Just a thought.

Do you think it may have anything to do with the fact they were developed for boosted cars and not NA?

Those 2 sets of cams are markedly different. might want to check what you have recieved. Lift and duration is where its at with NA.
