my mate has a EF 6cyl, and it has developed an interesting problem in that while idling it will just randomly stop, sometimes he will start it and it will run no worries, other times it will go for a bit then stop, or to get it gonig he has to hold the throttle open a bit and then keep it above idle, any ideas what could be wrong.

no, I reckon an air leak would just make it run rough, not outright stop, it's like someone just turns of the key

Idle speed controller, idle air controller depends who yo talk to, it is situated at the back of the throttle body. they tend to get gummed up with crap, and stick.

if the battery has been disconnected recently that could just be the computer learning the idle.
but it sounds as if it's more than that.

my car is an efi 6cyl. and i have the same problem. mine only ever stalls when comin up 2 the lights or sumin, i rekin it could be an air leak or it could be the electronic fuel pump if u have one. it could be on its way out.

had this happen on a pulsar not long ago, it was the idle control. take the ISC off and clean it with carby clraner.
