i noticed the other day that when i have the car running and the lights and my foot on the brake then switch the key off the car stays on.

So i tried the car off, turned the lights on and put my foot on the brake and the reds came on and i could hear the fuel pump. but as soon as i let off the brakes the car turns off

its a 97 EL fairmont. any help appreciated

Turbo timer!

I use to encounter that with my old cars {points} sometimes at night, it'll run on when I turn it off. dieseling they call it. usually when I advance the timing to much & its running really hot.

I have something along those lines 2, i dont spose you have a brake controller for trailers?

If i hold my foot on the brake and tap my controller the car goes into a pre ignition stage. fuel pump, dash works, batt light all that gear. then when i take my foot off the brake it all dies again

my younger brother had that same problem with his XH. turns out it was his brake lights believe it or not.

he put the wrong globes in and yeah, same problem. car would stay on when turned off etc.

you havent had your brake light globes replaced recently have you?
