Have you connected the wire to the solenoid on the starter motor?

As for the gear shift, is the movement from Park to Drive or from First to Drive?

Sounds like you have your gear linkage adjusted wrong. Crawl underneath, disconnect the linkage drom the box and adjust the gears with a shifter and see that the box is shifting through all gears.

If it will only go, Park, Reverse, Neutral, Drive, then it may may be going Drive, 3rd, 2nd, first.

When you put the car in Park, can you roll it or is it locked in Park?

Thats what I thought.

if the gar is "in gear" and not running it is just like being in neutral.

I reckon you are selecting D-3-2-1.

Remove the linkage and select Park from under the car. Then see wjhat happens. If it starts then you can reset you linkages from there.

If the gearbo is actually in D-3-2-1 then it won't start because of the inhibitor switch.

Get the gears sorted and see what happens then.

One step at a time.

That is the charcoal canister.

The hose goes to a fitting on the head side of the BBM between #2 and #3 runner if my memory serves me right.
