My old man Had a VK vharger with a 245, single 2 barrel carb and 3 speeder. Reckons it was the best car he had ever owned abart from the farlaine. The old 225 slant 6 in the early S series valiant and the later pacers was a good engine also. It could beat a 302 clevo. I've always had respect for the mopars. My order of preferance has always been chrysler, ford, GM (apart from holden), and the rest (holden is somewhere near the bottom).

Mate of mine, used to drag his Town and Country ute, triple webbers, cam, in a 265, flogged every prick in their V8s, and it was road registered.
Slant 6 motors, were good, p****d all over holden/ford motors, 225 cubes they were. One of the most under rated val motors, was the 215, had a square bore, perfect for mods/turbo etc, but i dont know anyone who did it.

I owned a VH 770 E57 with the 360cu V8 and after putting a direct connection cam with a LD340 manifold and 650dp with 3.55 gears it really smoked the rear tyres.

But one of the guys I used to hang around with in my early 20's had a E38 with a three speed manual and that thing in second gear felt is if it had turbo fitted to it. The thing that I can remember was the fuel smell under acceleration.

Yes Ford sixes in 1971/72 had a the 250 2v log mtrs and at least holden had and triple 186/202 mtrs fitted to the LC/LJ Torana's but none of them really matched the hemi's performance in straitline. Ford was way behind in performance six's in those years.

Yeh and they used to chew fuel and I put a piston thru the bottom end of the block and blew up the gearbox and a clutch.

Not strong enough for me HE HE HE

if i remember correctly the E49's also had triple valve springs and tri cut valve seats, factory balanced bottom end, roller rockers and 6 into 2 extractors and dual exhaust. bloody unreal they were for there time, they still carry a lot of street cred now.

The E49's ran the same twin plate clutch as the XY 351's.Yes the gear boxes in the six's had trouble with the power and some did suffer piston slap but I have only ever seen 1 stock 245 with a rod through the block.

But the 340/360cu V8 could match a Ford or Chev anyday plus the 727 jumbo t/f trannies are the strongest about and the Dana rear end fitted to the rare E47 6 cyl cars would match a 9 inch in strength.

I agree that the Hemi 6 was a damn good weapon, but for my money the best 6 that's been in an Aussie car is the RB30E in the VL Commodore.

I know that'll piss a few of you off (or all of you!!!!) But the engie is not a holden, it's a Nissan and if you put a RB26DETT head on the RB30E block, it's gonna fly.

Sorry for the spanner, but I gotta pipe up on this issue!!!!!!!!

What do you like about them so much? Hard to make decent naturally aspirated power out of them.
Yeah the worked turbos fly, but that because the VL's are so f**k light - but we're talkin about how they came from the manufacturer here - and a stocko VL Turbo is about a match for an XR6...wow.
IMO the Hemi and Falcon sixes are better 8-)

BA 6 beats the VL 6 hands down...
i'd go as far to say the SOHC FOrd I6 would be better, if only there was a factory turbo setup for em.

is that Hemi 6 the one that managed to win all the n/a 6 dyno comps @ about 200rwkw?
something no 4.0 SOHC 6 has managed as yet.

Yeah thiers no way you can compare the VL's Nissan 6cyl turbo to an Aussie built hemi 6 pack engine!! :D They were an absolute beaut of an engine and design and considering the Hemi 6 was an older engine too. :)

VL turbos are s**t i have beaten one in my XR6 ffs! Nothing special about them at all.
