hey guys, had a quick search probbably wasnt looking for the right thing, but serviced my auto trans the other day. and spilt some of the old oil on the cat converter.

now when driving it even though ive degeased it and high pressure cleaned it, it smokes and put off a horrible smell. really detering me from driving as when you stop you can see smoke coming from the bottom of the car. anyway of cleaning it off? or is it a matter of putting up with it until its all been burnt away
thanks!

Just drive it till it Burman off. Shouldn't take too long. I had oil all over my extractors as well as power steering fluid. A half an hour drive and it was all gone.

Worth trying a thorough spray of aerosol Brake Cleaner/Parts Cleaner, then rinse with water. Brake Cleaner disolves dirt, oil, etc and drips off, but doesn't leave any residue.

 Oh dear. Yeah, I should've stated that. Brakeclean on a hot catalyst could be very exciting  Good catch. Or should I say - spot the obvious mistake. Thanks.

Definitely on a cold cat only.

How much did you spill?
Double check it hasn't split the gasket or something
