Hey guys,
Brought the car with a stage 2 CMS head and cam package.
It's a '97 EL fairmont Ghia.
Can't tell if the head is different but defiantly has a cam.
Called CMS in nsw up and he said he remembers the car (maybe) but wouldn't give me the Specs. On the cam.
Does anyone know them or how I can get them? (To help with mail order tune)
Also he said it should start to come alive at 2,200 but feels to takes about 2,800-3,000 to start.. When it does though you sure feel it.
I was also thinking about a more aggressive cam and a tune from I.T. Mail ordered. I have a full exhaust and a KnN air filter, I would like a lumpy idle plus well it to be quicker lol, what brand and model would you recommend (I have a mechanic to do the work)
It has 210,000 on the clock and I would say at least the last 50,000km havnt been a easy life.. Would you guys recommend taking the limiter out to say 6,000 plus (on a 'race' tune)?
Cheers,
Daniel

Don't mess with the limiter, the motor will take it, the gearbox will not. It shreads the gearbox or anything that bolts up to it. This has been well documented.

I was wondering where Russ's car ended up. If you want a lumpy idle, your going to need to change the cam and put a high stall in it. something with more overlap and a touch more lift will be needed, this will be why a high stall is needed, the auto box does not like lumpy idle's.

Get in touch with Jason from T.I. Performance, for the most part he can generate a resonable tune from a dyno run, but you need to talk to him to find out what he needs, or you can take it to CMS, open your wallet and see if he can help. Don't expect miracles though, its only a 6 after all.

If you want it to wake up, boost it. Contact Snort for a place to start, not knowing what your budget is though, you may also want to contact 6 boost and a few others.

I've got a CMS 3 running through my stock auto, has no dramas whatsoever.

I'm talking about a bigger cam than the CMS 3, something that has 580 thou lift and a long duration. that will need a stally. Depends how much lump you want? If you really want it lumpy, get an 8. I6 will never match an 8.

Yep was russ car, quick i guess but gearbox is gone and diff isnt far lol
He flogged it and so do i, they are not bullet proof sadly.
Im at the point at either upgrading and getting rid of it or just waiting the next year out for xr6 tubro or a 8.
If taking out the rev limiter is out of the question i dont think i should go any higher, it takes to long to come alive as it is.
