i dont really understand the difference between them and why they were dizzy (a b d) when to coil (f) and went back to dizzy (L)

my idea of a coil pack is like what the commodores have. anyone explain it to me a little better?

A coil pack is a bank of 3 coils together and can develop a faster stronger spark.

Dizzy's worked for 50+yrs and proven reliable (when maintained) and only have one Coil doing all 6 cylinders.

And in EF's the idea was to 'get rid' of moving parts and i guess be 'up there' with the compeditor and have a more advanced safer timing system with a knock sensor, and was controlled by the ECU with info from the crank angle sensor and camshaft sensor.

I think in the EL series they cut corners ie: no painting of block and engine bay and using left overs ie: dizzys. But i cant really back that up can I :P

Either way.. i think the EL is more user friendly for us 'modders' as timing can be messed around with to an extent.

and for the AU.... i think they found there could be more potential in a coilpack and back to it they went?

yeh hybrid heads... lower rocker ratio and different ports/springs

Some say they have more 'meat' in them... and are best suited to LPG as for the ports..
but I dunno.

other than that, same output I'm lead to believe

Thats what I heard, Ford trying to keep the price down so cut some corners.
However in my EL the engine & engine bay was painted, in the BA they are not! :o

The EL hybrids didn't get an increase in compression or anything so they were the same power output - and krytox only the EL2's had the unpainted engine bay, the sereis ones are painted.
As far as I understand it, they changed to coil pack for the reasons krytox suggested, but I don't think it went exactly how they wanted it to? So they put it back to R&D and reverted to the dizzy in the meantime.
