I don't like to crash the party but I dare say after doing all the work converting it that there hardly will be a noticeable difference.

better of getting aftermarket cam and extractors....would cost about the same.

you will get the best gains from a tickford head and ecu using an aftermarket cam...

the best SOHC cylinder head to modify is the AU head. Although cam choice for AU is a little limited although i think that issue is disappearing.

If you already have the head use it, but I wouldn't bother buying any of the other stuff.

Best bet will be to get an aftermarket cam and a j3 tune.

Seriously do people google "f**k up modifications for Fords owned by Jews" and get linked straight to this site nowadays?

The best head to modify is the 94AB head found on late model ED's, EF's and early EL's. From a Jim Mock article.

I read an autospeed article that says the best flowing "stock" head is the 91AA(EBII,Early ED) but not the best to modify. The head which has the potential to flow more is the AU series heads and they also already have the larger exhaust valves standard. (41mm?)

Jim Mock Article:-

As a generalisation, the flow capacity of the Ford cylinder head gradually improved with each model. The exceptions to this are the ED (which appears to use the same head as the EBII) and the AU (which use relatively small ports).

Jim says the EA head should be avoided - "there are weaknesses in the casting, design faults and flow problems." The EB was slightly improved and the EBII was better again.

The EF/EL head uses nice large ports and runners and improved combustion chamber design. Be aware, however, some ELs were released with hybrid engines using an AU-spec small-port head.

By far, the best head is that fitted to the EF/early EL. "The EF head makes good power in standard form and, when you decide to go further, they're easier to port," says Jim.

Valve sizes went unchanged except the EF XR6 and AU received 2mm larger exhaust valves. Inlet valve size cannot be increased due to space limitations. Regardless, Jim says there's no gain in fitting bigger valves unless the engine is already modified in a big way.

AU is the best head if you intend to on working it.

The only traditional drawback has been lack of off the shelf cams, but this isn't really a problem with most being available in an AU grind.

As I understand the thread is about using xr6 gear, and he already has an xr head...There is no point in him spending money on buying another head as far as bang for buck goes. He is better off using the xr6 head he has and spending money on a cam/headers/exhaust/j3 chip.
