My car did this. Radiator was 30% blocked.
Didn't run hot. Just had way too much pressure.

Now that was something I was thinking about too. Cheers for that mate.
Any idea how to clear the blockage? Is there cleaning stuff? Should I just replace it? It seems to be replaced back in 2006.

Cheers all of you guys for your replies so far!

Still open for more suggestions.

take the radiator out & take it to a radiator place.

they will remove the plastic tanks & properly clean it for you so it's 0% blocked.

While the radiator is out replace all the hoses (those eBay kits are more than fine i've used them on 3 cars) & get a hose a start to flush out as many components as you can.

Make sure you flush in the opposite direction as well as the normal direction to get the best possible flush out there. Start with the heater core then work your way upwards (so you don't get as wet when you lay down).

Do the plastic overflow bottle as well (best to remove it as its only 2 screws & 3 hoses).

By yourself some Tectalloy Gold (Green) & keep that ready for when everything's all back & hooked up correctly. fill with Tectalloy & good clean fresh water.

The car is running 100% coolant atm. I heard water actually rusts the engine, even with inhibitor and has a lower boiling point.
Is this true or just a matter of opinion?

Cheers!

Remove the radiator, invert it and flush water through the outlet pipe to see how much rust comes out. If you want to be sure it's OK, take it to a radiator repairer to check/flush the core.

I also had a radiator with the inlet side filled up 30% with bits of rust. When it was pulled apart, half the core ends were blocked.

I tried to flush mine myself a few times with a hose and air gun attachment but it didn't clear it. Took it to natrad and they "overhauled it" eg pulled it appart. Cleaned it all. New o rings painted it and charged me $110. Bit exy but no problems now.

So you got a rebuild. New ones average around 100-120 bucks aftermarket...

I don't have any rust in the water and the engine is still painted from the inside. The owner before me always used coolant. I hope therfore the rad is still ok, certainly considering it's a 3 core...

You should be using 33% coolant to 67% distilled water in the cooling system. In desert areas or under race conditions, you might go to 50% coolant & 50% water.

I used to use Tectaloy 60 coolant but was advised by others on here that it's rubbish (due to low glycol content). If the coolant has 1100mg/L of glycol (or better), then that's the stuff to use. Unfortunatley, it costs more.

I was just looking at new radiators. I found these 52mm alu radiators on eBay, cheap as. Anyone ever tried them? Are they any good? Would that be good in my case, I mean: cooler coolant so less mass?

Nice one. I might get one of those then too while I am at it. Hope its not too cold though for an I6, but then again, that way there is room for improvement :)

Is that the one from Asi performance? They have 2 for the EF/EL, a 2 core 52mm for $250 and a 3 core 52mm for $380. I'll probably opt the 2 core. I think 52mm with 2 core would be enough and 3 core overkill. No?

52mm is more than fine for normal applications. If you're going turbo & hard stylz driving then pay the extra & get yourself a 3 core, but i really doubt you will even really need to get a 3 core since its basically a normal every day car.

Tectalloy Gold (green coloured) is the way to go for corrosion inhibitor. Put in 1 litre of that stuff (costs $20 per litre) & fill the rest of the system with demineralised water or filtered tap water if you have a water filter at home :)
