So a cop told you it was too loud a cpl of weeks ago and you fixed it?

Now you got a letter from EPA for noise pollution, is that right?

If that's the case then you have no leg to stand on, get a certificate and send it in.

You can f**k with cops, but don't f**k with EPA, they are the worst of the lot.

just pay it.

but IMO if you get done, and can prove you have gone straight to the testing yard without changing anything and pass their should be no fee.

i must say that "theblackone's" exhaust is silent compared to mine, you can have your head in the engine bay and cant hear the tailpipe, yet its over i dont know how.

dont mess with the epa, they can issue HUGE fines for this sort of thing.

Marshall - you know what I reckon...

But anywy - maybe just get it tested so at least you know for future reference...at least you're getting something for $35.

Besides if you feel you have been victimised...ie cop didn't pull you over and *actually* do you for it...you just got something in the mail unknowingly right - then who's to say there is any real evidence that you didn't have the new tip on at the time of the alleged infringement ?

I'd at least get a bit more confirmation on precisely what options you have and how feasible / practical they are.

I think its funny how I even have a 2.5" cat back redback zorst with the hotdog and not once have I been told that it is too loud, and I get pulled over a lot by the police (random breath tests apparently, I call it random harrassment). Its weird how every car is different.

i reckon cops first look for lowered cars. I mean my car is bloody loud with 1 straight through muffler, high flow cat and pacies. And as soon as i see a cop patrol, I back off the throttle at about 1400rpm and just coast past.

If my car was sitting on superlows i reckon they would be waving there red light saber at me to pull in for an inspection. lol..lol...

cheers gents

no, a cop just "noticed" me one saturday night, took down my rego and reported me. i wasnt stopped.

i know the car was too loud, coz, well, you just had to hear it and know it was too loud.

"the vehicle was observed in DANDENONG RD, WINDSOR at approximately 8:55pm on 05 August 2006... a report has been lodged by a member of the Victoria Police indicating that the vehicle was considered to be excessively noisy"

agreed, its pretty flawed that in the end it comes down to the judgement of one 1 person. and whether the car turns out to be legal or not the person is still stung for 35 bucks.

Im sure they would assume that when people get letters like that they go out and fix up their exhaust before testing. They got the result they were after.

Just go with the first option (like everyone has said anyway).

See, problem is, our exhuasts often don't sound that loud... because we are used to 4 cylinders with cannons being stupidly loud.
Thing is, our exhausts are often louder than 4 cylinders with cannons, but the 4 cylinder produces a different note that resonates in your ears more, hence sounding louder.
Marshall, your car will be too loud, I can tell you that, mine sounds quiet, but is 102dB at 3000rpm - remember a ghia is tested at 3750rpm, or 3900, can't remember.

don't argue with the epa. ever. just do what they tell you to do, and deal with it.

In that case mate it makes no difference, just because you fixed it before you received the letter means nothing to them... You still have to prove to them that it's fixed.
Pay the money and wear it.
They screwed me for under bonnet pollution once, and while i was there he said it's too loud... came in at 112 db from memory lol.
