Well the tap is off, can some one please tell me which way the direction of flow is? does the arrow on the tap suppose to point to the firewall? or to the front of the car?

Also any suggestions on the best coolant to use?

thanks

The arrow is the direction of flow and should be pointing to the firewall.
Was the butterfly valve inside fully open when you removed the tap?

well it is Zero degrees here this mourning and my toes anr frozen lol. But I just put the garden hose in the heater radiator, nothing would come out at first, then just a big splat of crap came out and is now running clean and clear. Hopefully that is the problem.

I suppose after 17 years and more then likely a blown head gasket somewhere in that time it is only natural to be blocked

Still I wouldn't of thought so until chatting to you guys, thanks everyone for your help.

Looks like you found your problem.

madmax, Thanks I thought it was suppose to be pointing that way but it wasn't. No it isn't fully open but it seems to be working ok, the car is now getting hot inside after washing out the heater.

Funny thing is that I am getting the E3 and E5 codes again. But the heater seems to work now so I suppose I just ignore them for the time being.

E3 & E5 errors may not effect it all that much. As it will still get hot or cold, however it may affect the outside & inside temp readings and therefore the CC wont know how hard or easy to work.

Make sure you fully flush the old coolant out, the last thing you want to do is mix differant brands.

I use Motorcraft R1-50 around $35 for 1lt and does the whole system.

The errors your system is reporting will not be of great problem as the computer still operates ok, using default temperatures.

The amb is 20 degrees but I don't k now what the sniffer motor default temperature is.

You can use the system in manual mode and adjust everything you want to anyway (not too many people I know just pres 'auto' and let the system drive itself).

Great to hear that you found your problem, they are pretty annoying.
