I think I've got the right mark...a small dot between the crank and accessory sprockets. I've aligned the marks on both those sprockets to that dot. The cam sprocket I'll work out once I flip the motor over in the morning. If there's info on the forum I'd appreciate being pointed to it thanks.

I must have a stretched chain as I'm half a tooth off either way I set it. One tooth back leaves my cam sprocket mark out a tad and likewise for one tooth forwards.
This motor of mine had a hugely blown head gasket due to a broken bolt up the back left corner. The engine oil became like chocolate mousse. Trying to turn the oil pump over by hand was virtually impossible so there must have been huge strain on the chain caused by the extra viscous mess tyring to pass itself off as lubricant. Anyway, it'll have to do for the minute.

I know the threads old but I'd like to know the same thing. Does the mark between the 2 sprockets mean anything? Or do I line up the 2 sprockets exactly leaving some chain slack between the two? (Does the bottom guide take up this slack?) Or do I just line the two sprockets as closely as possible while eliminating all slack between the two?

fromwat ive read thers supposed to be a bit of slack on one side.
i think it has somthin to do withwen the motor warms up the engine stretches a bit. i dunno for sure, just tryin to help

Answered you're own question there mate.
Allign the crank sprocket mark to the oil pump sprocket & put the chain on. You want as little slack between the two as possible having them still aligned. You will want most of the chain slack on the tensioner side. The guides take up the slack. |
