OK, started the car 2 days ago, only to see the voltage at 12, oil pressure in the red and the coolant warning light on.

Checked all the belt tensions, all fine and in good nick.

Checked battery voltage - 12.8 - 13 with everything off, 12.5 with ignition on, and 14.5+ when the car is runing. (dash still says 11ish with motor running).

This is confusing - it seems like the instrument cluster is not getting enough power? Only thing i can think of to make it under-read.

The final problem is that the car is reluctant to start - solenoid clicks a bit then she goes. Cleaned solenoid connections, battery terminals, alternator and the main earthing strap on the engine.

well obviously the guage in the cluster is wrong!

to check the oilpressure u will need an external mechanical gauge.

coolant light should not be on unless the car overheats.

you could have a bad earth somewhere
1 thign that was done one the AU's to fix a bad oil pressure reading was adding an extra earth strap from engine to the -ve of battery

First things first, CHECK THE EARTHS, i had this problem in my ED, and it turned out that the block-chassis earth was loose

I checked the -ve terminal and what I think is the main block earth - just behind the alternator. Where else should I check?

Will try adding direct earth block to batt.

Any ideas on why its clicking before starting? Again checked all wiring to solenoid, cleaned terminals etc etc...

Thanks for the help guys!
