On the dash left corner of all your warning lights.. With key out of ignition should be flashing once every few seconds. Not very bright, but if you look for it you should see it. Although my EF wagon one didn't work........
Have you got decent spark yet?

EL smart lock light is in the middle of the cluster. In between the tacho and speedo,
(In the 2 or so inch vertical strip). I assume EF would be the same. Same cluster. EA ~ ED is in the bottom left corner, i think.. someone correct me if im wrong on that, havnt owned a ea - ed in ages.

Yeah, I noticed that too but wasn't going to say anything. No smartlock in EA.
And yes EF same place as EL.
But we're helping mikey fix an ED, so lets not hijack his thread.

Information only
ED smartlock light in between tacho & speedo?? - shine torch on warning lights should be able to see if you look closely- but it may not be working because of blown globe- does interior light work - fuse feeds smartlock - faulty coil and or TFI module can fuel foul plugs from trying to start with weak spark - take them out and see if there fouled or just change ....

New coil new leads new dizzy cap new plugs. it spluttered a bit but still wouldnt fire. might have to tow to the professionals. battery ran flat again so is charging. centre light was working fine located the smartlock light but bulb must be out no flashing at all. did the turn on and leave for half hour incase it was that as per handbook. will check spark when battery is charged again

Mine did the same thing.....put in a new dizzy, and another S.L. module....no joy.
The coil wasn't getting power.....so now it is permanately hotwired.....still need a key to start it.....it's been that way now for 3 years and no more dramas.
I think it may have a dodgey wire somewhere, because prior to stopping altogether, it use to have an intermitent stamble, and I would see the tacho take a dive.....and always seemed to be on lefthand corners too.

Do you have a multimeter?
Absolute must have tool if you plan on fixing your Ford yourself.

When your battery is charged, make sure terminals are making good contact with battery, scratch em up a bit with a screwdriver or something. Listen for the fuel pump when you turn ignition on, watch the tacho when you crank it.
If it doesn't start within about 5 seconds, check for spark, and plug leads are in correct order. Give the wiring on the dizzy a good hard wiggle.

Also, don't make the mistake of holding throttle flat to the floor while trying to start it. Doing so turns off the injectors.

I've had this happen before because the loom plug to the coil wasn't pressed in snugly enough (despite that metal clip being on) and also once because one of the wires on the isc plug is brittle (I think there's 2 around the isc that can cause starting issues from memory).

no its not! but the fuel line is dry. would the ecu have shut off the fuel pump or would it be coincidence for it to stop working?
