Hello

I'm hoping someone with a bit of a mechanical mind can help me out. My car is a 1994 ED Falcon which has recently had a new fuel pump (2005), the smart lock over ridden (2005) and a new starter motor and distributor (2007) and when it gets a hot day or mildly hot, i could take it for a drive could be 10min - or 30 mins and then when i get back in it wont start. I have to then let it sit for a bit maybe to cool down the engine and it will kick over. I had a theory that if I put on the headlights before kicking it over it may go, this theory was soon squashed on the weekend when it didn't start. I have called the mechanic and told him the story he said possibly the fuel pump, or blocked injector but unless it does it in front of him he doesn't really know. Has anyone had this problem before???? It really is a pain in the a**. I thought when the starter was replaced it may of fixed the problem but now that the weather has started to heat up again its proving that it wasn't anything to do with the starter motor.

HELP me please........

Cheers :?

Hi There

I'll start the ball rolling...

When you say it won't start....

DOES IT CRANK AND NOT FIRE ??
Your dizzy is new so hopefully that rules out the TFI module. ( a fairly
common problem especially when hot )
Check / replace your coil - old ones can go faulty when hot.
How olds the lead from the coil to dizzy ??
Check fuel pump relay ( when hot ) - when you switch
the ignition on you should hear a whirring sound
for a second or so.

OR IT WON'T CRANK AT ALL WHEN HOT ??
You've bypassed smartlock so that rules out dry solder joints.
Check the neutral inhibitor switch ( if its an Auto ) - try wiggling between
neutral, drive, reverse, park etc - see if it helps.
Also check starter relay - under or around coolant reservoir ( I think ).

Also make sure all battery connections are clean and secure
and this includes the block earth and either end of the
chassis to block earth.

Good Luck

yeah, deffinatly sounds fuel related.

check the fuel filter under the left rear. they clog up real easy. esspesially if you run the tank dry once or twice

Yeah, i am interested in the reponses here too, cuz i find my car is a bit shaky on startup sometimes on hot days. It always starts, but sometimes it feels like i am on a rollercoaster ride for the first 5-10secs :)

I think it sounds like the culprit is the coil if its kicking over.

Basically you should listen around the engine bay, and hear the relay(s) click "off" at varied durations after stoping the engine.

This was the fault of mine, after I'd been through everything mentioned here.

Replaced coil.. started.. stop engine.. no start
Coil no spark..
Replaced coil and dizzy.. started.. stop engine.. no start
Brdige fuel and ignition relay. start stop start stop start. All the coils used were still fine.

You need to meter the coil and check the hose to the fuel rail. It will prime every time you click it to "on" with the key, IF the fuel relay has turned on.

hi there, sorry for bump this up.
I have similar problem for my EL.
it starts perfectly in normal condition. But under 40 degree if I drive and park under the sun for 1 hour, it takes more than 5 seconds to start, or more, very struggling. then I drive it home, cool it down in the garage, it starts very eagerly.
so what is the thoughts?
all the dizzy, leads etc fuel pump relay are very new. ecu relay did not change
fuel pressure regulator not sure the age.
car is 1998 xr6 manual.
thanks for any message.
cheers,
ALex

Ive had the problem for about 2 weeks first thing I did was replace the coil and move it between the airbox and headlight. Then I went for a drive and it happened again I put my foot to the floor cranked it and she started turns outit was a exhaust leak before the o2sensor so it was picking up it was running lean so the cpu was constantly adding more. So if I were you go for a drive turn it off then crank it to make sure it doesnt start if it doesnt start than put your foot to the floor then crank it and if it starts then your problem is either a exhaust leak or a faulty o2 sensor. For the ones of you who dont know th exhaust leak before the o2 sensor or a faulty o2 sensor with the problem I described means it was flooding with fuel.
