Some of you may have seen my post about my ED in the ECU forum..

I've got the thing running again, except it only runs with assistance, you have to keep your foot on the throttle to keep it running, and even then, it runs like crap and billows white smoke that stinks of fuel..

The problem started after I changed my Cam to a regrind and put in some new shims.. It wouldn't start. I discovered that this was caused by me leaving a part of the negative terminal off.

Anyway, as I say, I can get it started now but it runs like s**t. The firing order is Ok, The Plugs are sparking, it doesn't backfire, but it will die if I let off the revs..

Any thoughts would be appreciated, I'm starting to get a bit distressed with it being knackered..

Original post is here anyway - http://fordmods.com/forums/ed-won-t-start-injectors-not-injecting-t56812.html

yeah.. just did a bit of research and that seems like the general response..

Doesn't make a lot of sense though.. the Car ran fine without smoke before the Cam change, and is now running with smoke afterwards..

I thought maybe a cracked head, but I got all the Oil out of the bolt holes before bolting the rocker gear back on..

EDIT - where would I need to look to find the Vacuum hoses for the MAP sensor?

EA-ED MPFI vacuum hose runs from the MAP sensor on the firewall to the Engine side of the MPFI manifold near the rear, can be a pain in the a*** to get too. The Christmas tree thing at the back is a place to check for Leaks aswell.

what is your timing like ? had a timing light on it ?

Nah, not yet.. Battery is dead at the moment so it's getting charged..

I'll check the Vacuum hoses tomorrow and the timing once the battery is charged..

The cam is a Wade Regrind, 1636.. does the Cam timing need to be adjusted or does it just go in how the old cam was?

More questions!

Rocker Arms, and HLA's.. when the Rocker assembly is bolted back into the head, where should the HLAs and Rocker arms be..

Should the HLA's be resting on the Valves, pushing down slightly, with a bit of clearance.. alot of clearance.. Anybody?

I think I've worked out what the problem is..

Peeled back the rocker cover..

this is what I found.. Sorry for the blurry picture..

Image

Part of the end of the Rocker arm that holds the HLA has shattered..

I'm hoping that the valve hasn't clipped the piston and bent, and that's what's caused it.. I do think that I bolted the rocker assembly down to hard in the first place, and maybe that rocker was slightly damaged already.. I dunno, but I hope that I can just replace the HLA and Rocker arm, other wise.. well, f**k knows what I'll do. New Falcon, I suppose :(

Updates once I work out what's what
