In the following pictures from the alternator is 2 black rod brackets. Should these be standard on an EF motor (as if so then mine are missing)?

Yes, these struts are on other EF engines. They're probably to ensure the alternator bracket doesn't flex when the serpentine belt's tensioned up.

Ta. I'll have to run around the wreckers tomorrow and see if I can find some. Wonder when and why they were removed and not put back on my car...
