Looking to see if anyone knows the amp draw of EF/EL/XH engine. Also the max draw of the aircon would be helpful. Just looking to see what left over amps I have to play with.

Cheers.

Hello,

What do you want to run ? The Alternator is around 100 Amps. At 12 Volts, you have 1200 Watts. The Alt output is less at idle, and you have left out a few things. The cooling fans will draw a lot, and the headlights. You also have to put some power back each time you start, for the starter. The rear window demister will take up to 100 watts. Wipers and even the stereo, it all adds up. In normal use the Alt makes enough to keep everything going, and a pair of driving light would not be a problem. When you are running them, you are normally driving at speed, so the Alt is at max output. Night being cooler, the fans wont run much.

Yeah I've accounted for those things and understand the electrics and physics of alternators just looking for the air con and engine draw as I don't have tongs to do it myself. Just looking at working on the alternator and need to see how many more amps I'll need to get for my gear.. Thanks for the input though.

EF Alternator is 110amp but has extra draw on it due to the coilpack.

EL/XH are 100amp alternators (some 110amp).

What additional gear are you wanting to run?

Hello,

The Air Con will use very little, a few Amps for the clutch. Most people have the interior fan running anyway. If you want to know exactly, you will have to use an Amp meter. At idle, for ECU, fuel pump and ignition I would guesstimate 20 to 25 amps. Looking at the value of fuses and breakers / links will give you some idea. The later models had a bigger Alt, and I think so did the Police spec Cars.

Well all up the gear I want to run will be 110amps, that's if everything is running at peak consumption. When you say police spec would that include the police dog utes? I know of a guy with one so it might be worth investigating. I've got a 110amp Bosch atm. Cheers for the help.
