the other problem is in the morning when i put the car in D it goes at a snails pace but if i move to 1 and back to D then it runs fine. happens evary day.
can anyone shed some light on these two issues.

definately not normal! 22.7Lph should be more like 15Lph for town driving and around 10-12 for Highway.

Your tranny sounds like it may need a service.

I usually get on 350km off 60L in my EL, around the city. It's factory gas, and the car has done nearly 200ks.

Approx 17.5-18L/100km. Not too bad considering you'd probably get 14L off petrol.

I used to get 450-500 around town out of 72 litres or 14.4-16Lph
On the highway up to 680 out of a tank (72 litres)

I am getting 17 L/100 in my petrol I6 around town. About 9 on the highway. Maybe a bit of it is my driving, but should my econ be better?

9 on the highway is about right for petrol, 17 around town on petrol is it? That'd be your right foot!

is the car serviced regulary and when was the gas last tuned and serviced. service as in the gas filter cleaned, converter cleaned/tested and maybe a new diaphram kit done.
also the gas we are getting now is not as good as it used to be, the old mans 351 is on straight gas and over the years hes getting less ks to a tank and not as much GO when towing a 26ft caravan..

MyEF Futura gets about 9 on the highway and about 11.5-12 around town. Fords says its consumption is 11.5.

Also the heavier the car the more fuel is being used, same as if your driving in the hills. The engine is doing more work so obviously it uses more fuel.

This was my experience as well - on LPG in an EB series 2. Two things I noticed that had a massive effect on fuel economy was transmission set-up and the lpg computer that used to control to rich/lean states - and it wasn't working.

Normal city travel on the M4 and Freeway from Sydney to Taree I was getting approx 500-550kn per 68 litres filled. However, whenever the battery was disconnected that would drop to 420-450km immediately. I'd take it to the local mechanic, he'd re-setup (re-callibrate) the throttle position for the auto tranny and d-da - back to normal fuel consumption. I then found out the computer controlling fuel rich/lean state for the lpg was dead during a routine service. I had the gas system serviced and tuned to the best setting that could be achieved without the little ecu, then drove from Sydney to Rockhampton over 22 hours. With careful driving - 680km per tank. Got the computer fixed and the same trip (return) - 520km to the tank. Disconnected the computer from the harness and back to 680km. Again careful driving in summer with no overheating issues, only difference I felt was a loss in low-end torque without the computer connected.

So, maybe have someone look at your transmission setup.
