So, my EF s**t has had trouble starting since i've baught it, never really missed a beat.
Replaced the fuel pump (because it was f**k) but still having the same prob, talked to a few mates been led to believe its more on the ignition side of things.

It has now gotten so bad that if i accelerate more than aprox 1/8th throttle it dies in the a***, whistles out the exhaust and backfires out the intake. can someone help? :cry:

What have you checked so far mate, have you:
Checked/replaced the spark plugs?
Checked that the TPS isn't out of its proper position?
Disconnected the negative battery terminal to reset the ECU?
Possibly s**t batch of fuel.

I'd be trying all of these before you do anything more. See if any of these sort your problem out mate, before getting worried its more complicated.

change your fuel filter..if it is blocked it may cause what you have described.

a whistle out the exhaust and a miss could also be a blocked catalitic converter

How do i check the tps? I've reset the ecu, it could probably do with a new fuel filter, Havn't checked plugs or leads as of yet, what am I looking for? damage? fouling? it had been a problem for a while but it only started to seriously affect it after I left the bonnet up for most of the night in 3degree temps (condesnation)

I don't think it was a s**t batch of fuel, Its had this problem in 2 diff states, goldy grafton sunny coast and gympie. it just rapidly got that bad that its dangerously underpowerd...
(after the night of the bonnet up)

I'll replace the fuel filter and plugs and let ya know how i go.... :)
if they don't work i'l give the cat a bash and see whats up...

yea sounds like coil pack and/or leads, plugs.
but would do the other stuff to, if they haven't been done for a while.

Fuel filter was f**k, will give that a go but I definatly think its more than that, will be gettin a couple parts tomoz, will let ya know how i go...

make sure you have no vacuum leaks aswell

listen around the engine bay mainly around the intake plenum.

mine used to back fire and lose power at full throttle ended up bein slight leak in the brake booster and it was confusing the maf sensor

A) You don't. You don't have one, it's an EF, they are coil pack, not Dizzy.

A) Change the plugs. How old are the leads? Probably worth changing. When you have done that, check your spark, could be Coil Pack.

A) If it rattles, it's stuffed.

TPS = throttle position sensor, all injected Falcons have one, dissy or not

yes they do.. your thinking tfi?.
tps = throttle position switch...

you check the voltage between the green wire and the black wire, at idle it should be around .7v

im having pretey much the exact same problem except i cant even get my ef to move in drive anymore. Ive done.... Leads Plugs. fuel pump/filter, air filter, cleaned throttlebody replace intake manifold gasket new map sensor and coil pack, tried shouting at it kicking it. next gonna try oxy sensor and catalyc converter, and now beacause of this thread ill teast the tps as soon as i walk to the servo to get a battery for my multimeter :( . Having any luck yourself?
