I have a chiptorque HP4 chip for mine, got it off my mate out of his old EF 4 litre auto, i now have basically the same exhaust and cam setup, but the chip still doesnt like my car, basically starts then dies so i figured its best not to keep trying with it, im gonna get it re-flashed then see how it goes. Problem is chiptorque in QLD wont reply to me as i have no proof of purchase for the chip, so they wont re-flash it for me, hopefully one of their distributors will. :?

yeah, i found that too,

cost a bit to get retuned, like 1/2 price of the chip new.

Retuning is $80-$100 depending on who does it. They told me they have no problem reflashing them even if you dont have origional proof of purchase (dispite what there website says).

You cant swap them between cars unless the computers have the same catch code. I got a list of ECUs from ford and there are around 40 ECU models for EF falcons alone. Check the bottom of the computers and see if they are the same. My catch code for example is 4DAF.

So your trying to tell me most of the time its runing at 14.7. hmmmmm

At cruise, yes. When I am accelerating, 12.5.

yeap, put that on a a/f meter and come tell me later.

I can confirm that it does sit on 14.7 during cruising and then around 12.5 under heavy load. We both watched the AF ratios while the car was on the dyno.

The chiptorque is a decent option and can be done without dyno tuning because the reprogramming isn't that hard. Chiptorque know how safe the ford tune is and how much timing they can safely add to that. Fuel maps on the EEC are in AF ratios so that is also easy to program. The changes to the idle program can just be done with just the cam specs. Obviously you won't get every last kw out of the car but they do work fairly well for the price. You may also find that many of the so-called dynotuned chips are purely a standard program which if it looks ok on the dyno will have very little if anything changed.

yes, it mite sit on 14.7 at cruise (ie: 1200rpm-3000rpm) and around 60 KPA
an yes, it should sit on 12.5 ( 3500rpm-6500rpm) at 0 KPA
buuuuut, there is a s**t load more points then that, Cruise and Wot are only around 30% of a entire map.

And as for guessing the tune, i cant see that been too accurate.
Ie: i changed plugs and it leaned out 0.3-0.5 through out the whole fuel map!!!
Just saying they cant acomidate the small things like that really make a difference.

MY 2c

The two AF ratio points were just a reference. It went from 14 to around 12.5 smoothly through the rev range. Yes they cannot accomodate for the small things, it is still a 'safe tune' but it's not bad at all. The way the ford EEC is programmed makes it fairly easy to tune even without dyno data. I agree as most others would that a full aftermarket system is the way to go but for most NA applications the chiptorque is still good value for money.

True, if used proplery and not expected to make mirricals happen.
Great for cam/chip packages ect...
