Hi
Have a ef fairmont 6cyl on duel fuel and wanted to ask the following 1. Is both the crank angle sensor and the black part of the cam angle sensor just a simple unbolt and bolt on or does timing have to be set. 2. Why would it take 2 goes or be harder to start on lpg sometimes it takes 2 goes to start on lpg but normally good plus it does have a petrol start too 3. What would cause it to run rough only in morning but normally good other than that does on lpg an petrol, nothing wrong with head as it doesn't use coolant and only does in morning once in while but other than that it's good, was thinkin maybe ignition leads coil cracked Need to know tonight if possible Thanks |

You can't set timing on an EF can you? - it's all computer controlled from memory, not able to be manually adjusted.

That cam angle sensor that goes where the distributor goes in a ea to ed and el can is that black bit a unbolt and bolt on job with nothing else to be done

can not set base timing with the ef, it is all controlled via the ecu

The cam angle sensor needs to be installed correctly. Cant remember off the top of my head how to do it

Never done an EF, but's something about inserting a pin to lock it... Engine on TDC firing No1... And then inserting it allowing the whole unit to twist as slides into the aux gear, then bolting it down before removing the pin...
Why do you want to remove it an then install it? Cheers, Tim

You can replace the upper part of the sensor but not a job to do in car.
Follow the instruction below. Removal of Cam Sinc Sensor: 1) Mark the sensor and the block to assist installation 2) Undo the retaining clamp and pull the unit out, just like a Dizzy. Install Cam Sinc Sensor: 1) Bring engine to TDC. 2 In the side of the housing of the Cam Sinc Sensor you will find a small hole. Rotate the cam Sinc Sensor untill the hole within the housing and the hole in the outer housing line up. Insert a 4mm drill bit or similar (pin, nail etc). 3) Insert the Cam Sinc Sensor the same way you would a dizzy. Try and align the marks you put on before removal. Sensor rotates approx 20deg with install. If you are out slightly this will make no difference as long as you can fit the retaining clamp. The sensor can go in almost any position, unlike a dizzy, as the pin holds it a "TDC". 4) Refit retaing clamp and tighten down. 5) REMOVE PIN. Job is complete. As Timmy has said, why do you want to replace the upper (sensor) part of the unit? |

Could anyone that has a diagram for a ea to el homemade diagnostic unit with a flashing light please be able to help by putting up a picture really want to make one and really need a diagram to do it |

Also just a question with a duel fuel e series 6cyl why would it be harder to start on lpg
The ef has a petrol start that when starting on lpg it runs petrol through for so many seconds and when starting on lpg as it fires it dies then you got to start it again and it cranks longer then starts and runs well, if yous don't understand that it means it takes 2 goes to start sometimes Would it be the petrol side and would there not be enough fuel pressure, The ef fairmont has a xr6 computer with std 6 cyl reg but that shouldn't make much difference should it?? Anyone know why some e series dual fuel takes 2 goes to start on lpg even though they have petrol start |

Are you saying that starting on petrol it is fine or are you saying that when on LPG with the std petrol start then changeover to LPG it is fine?
Are you trying to start it on LPG with no petrol start up? |

How does it start on straight petrol? Does fuel pressure have anything to do with it Not unless it is stuffed The ef has a xr6 computer with a standard fuel reg shouldn't be that should it??[/quote] Are you sure it is an XR6 ECU? All Factory LPG was by Tickford. Fuel reg will make nil difference unless the reg is stuffed. |
