hI GUYS , help needed , I am building a new speedway car and need advice , firstly there are restrictions (bugger), no fuel injection and no computor. I am making an adaptor to fit a 500 Holley carby , can you put an electronic dizzy on a 4.0L ? , I can blank off injection ports on head but which head would give me the best flow with the biggest exhaust valves ?xr6/au/tickford/standard ? Unsure of cam as yet but want max grunt between 2500-4500 (more bottom end torque ). Is there a difference between ef-au-xr6 blocks ?

any help welcome ....thanks speedway 5 ...cheers :D

Just use a cfi inlet manifold gasket to blank of the injection ports. Best standard head to work is off EF's and early EL's 94-AB head. XR6 head off ef/el had larger exhaust ports 41mm>39mm standard.

cheers

The standard AU head or EL hybrid head use 41mm exhaust ports aswell

Are you using the EA single point injection manifold? That can be converted to carby pretty easily. My uncle and I have been discussing putting a carby onto an EL then cutting the roof off for years.. the E series motors would sound hot with carby induction..
As far as I'm aware the AU blocks are different to the EB-EL blocks, and there are late EL 'hybrids' that bolt the AU heads to modified EL blocks.
With the electric dizzy, is it EF that has the distributor or is it EL? either way, find out which it is, and go with that block, then you can upgrade the dizzy to whatever spec you want.
Good luck with the project mate, keep us updated.

yer, get a AU motor, use earlyer running gear, and drop a massive cam in it, tune it best as possible, and run like mad, this is what my mate has in his EF, she goes like crazy, pulling over 165rwkw

can you run webers?? would be a far better option than converting the CFI manifold in my opinion.. wouldnt be cheap tho..

SPEEDWAY 5 I have a friend who raced a Falcon, in the 3 litre class, all over Victoria. Is this the class you are joining, if so I could get some info if you want.

It would depend where he needs the power. With the cost of webers, buying a holley manifold to suit the OHC engine and using a 500 would make plenty of power and be less then a 3rd the cost of a triple weber setup.

just use a complete EF engine. the tickford head and AU heads have 41mm VALVES and early regular heads have 39mm VALVES.
the AU valves have a narrower stem. using an EF head and buying some new AU Valves and Valve guides would be better. that way you have the 2:1 rockers and will have a bigger selection of cams to choose from.

don't convert the CPI manifold to use a carby. Buy a new manifold that is designed to run the holley on the 4L engine.

the AU engine has weaker rods then the late ED to early EL engines which are fitted with strong forged rods.

Thanks Tickford_6 , some great info , do you have any ideas about who would make manifolds to suit 4.0 / holly's ? Am still unsure if I can even run a tickford head (rules) because it is standard ford , but have been told EL Hybrid has same valves and ports ...
