I was wondering what mechanics actually do when you take your car in for a tune up because im sure most of this can be done in my shed at home by myself so was just wondering what a tune up involves?

yeah easy. change plugs, leads, oil, air filter, fuel filter, check tire pressures, oil filter, just bits of stuff like that, only if they need changing.

Oh i have already done all of that. I thought maybe 'tune up' meant maybe they tuned the engine to run right cos mine is running like s**t. Mornings it nearly stalls everytime and i have adjusted the idle screw so it still runs good when warm. One person has told me my computer needs re-programming. Is this expensive?

just unplug ur battery, let it sit there for a lil while then plug her back up and go for a lil drive, it resets the ECU that might help.

If that dosent help then you might have some dirty sensors.

bad idle is usualy assosiated with an old ISC valve (Idle Speed Controller), theres a doco on common e-series problems here....

but yeah a "tune up" on ur car is an easy thing to accomplish and will save you some cash.
