I know this thread is really bloody old, but can someone please explain to me why you shouldn't shift at 5200+ rpm in a race??? I mean seriously, if it was going to blow the engine, i think Ford would not have let it get there in the first place?

In a stock engine yeah. But still if it's an auto and your foot is flat tot the floor, the ECU won't change til higher up unless you lift off - and that's bad for speed too.

geez, this topic is old! I've dragged my cousin, been overseas (with him believe it or not!), and it's been dredged up from the bottom of the ocean!

I won the drag by the by, he had me at the start, but once first gear hit 3000rpm I hauled him back in and then took it away.

if its anything like my mates old vn lexcan you got no chance.
that thing was a stock auto been in family since new, and even a rolling start drag killed mine by at least 4 car lengths, use to beat a lot of cars.
but it was just a one off freak that car!
