Is the stock cat back on the xr6 have the same restriction as a off the shelf cat back?

I was quoted $750 for paccies and a red back cat back does that sound fair?

What are some advantages of upgrading my zorst?

think the xr6 exhaust is press bent, where aftermarket is mandrel bent. so better flow.
not sure if factory is 2.5" or not

I'd love to see an XR of that age that still has a genuine exhaust system fitted.

My Ef XR6 still had the original, factory fitted, genuine exhaust fitted up until about a year ago.....it had about a million holes in it when removed to fit a redback cat back system.

my first ef had the standard original exhaust until the resonator rusted out(car had also done 280,000km, then i only fitted a hot dog rear pipe section, and my el had the standard system on it 170,000km, and i gave it to a boostedfalcon member when i upgraded
my second ef had the resonator removed at the rear and the first muffler removed but the big original muffler rusted out and needed replacment

Hey, tickford_6,

Much to my shock, my EF XR6 wagon still has the factory (Tickford) cat-back after 16 years and 295,000kms. It may have been replaced sometime before I bought the car in 2004 at 185,000kms, but it's definitely the factory item. It's covered end-to-end with surface rust, but no holes - even with the high humidity and frequent rain here in Auckland.

It's 2.5" mandrel-bent all the way, but swaged down to 2.25" at the flange to match the original catalyst. It has an oval resonator at the front, then the big main muffler in front of the axle, and another reso after the axle. The last 20cm of the tailpipe is chromed (not a separate tip). The chrome is still OK. And it sounds awesome behind Coby headers and no cat.

I'm tempted to remove the rust and paint it with high-temp paint to keep it alive longer. But it's probably only the rust that's holding it together. :D When it eventually does die, I will have to try to get it duplicated, because I love the sound and lack of drone in the big wagon.
