My mum has a 95 ef XR6 wagon and every so often the damn thing wont start. She tells me that if she jiggles the leads around it sometimes will go. Aparently cylinder 3 keeps fouling its plug. it has been through 2 sets of leads and plugs, all to no avail.

Im thinking perhaps the coil pack? I vaguely remember reading that EFs had a lot of issues with these... getting wet? She said it started after they went through a carwash. would that have effected it enough to cause intermittent failure? Coz it seems to be fine somedays and others its just bad.

Need more info
Does it kick over but not run?
Does the starter engage at all?

yes it does kick over but no ignition. also she tells me that sometimes at low rpm, ie when coasting down hill, it will shudder a bit and cut out, and be unable to restart it. starter works fine. its either plug 3 or 5 that they find completely stuffed.

hope that helps a bit.

Yeah it sounds like it might be the coil pack. If she hasn't changed it in a while then it might be worthwhile doing anyway

thanks for the confirmation mate. Had a feeling it was the most likely gremlin, just needed to plumb some brighter minds than mine before sending her out to get the work done.
