I have a EL Gli and it has a red rocker cover whereas all other EL's I have seen (except the XR6's) have a black rocker cover. The black cover is the 157Kw stockie, is the red rocker cover the 162Kw Fairmont model ? It doesn't have the wings on the front like the XR6's but it is a red factory rocker cover. So is it the 162KW or has it been re-engined with an AU engine ?

I got extractors on it and a snorkel from an AU XR8 and a pod filter in the airbox. It goes alright, can own stock V6 commodores by a few car lengths...

Rocker covers are interchangeable. Look on the front of the head itself and it should have a T stamped on the front. That tells you that it is a tickford head.

Cool, thanks mate.

So obviously the 162Kw Fairmont i6 and the 164Kw XR6 both have tickford heads. I know the 162 Fairmont model is tickford based from what I read about it in some magazine, probably a mates copy of street machine or something, haha. All I recollect is they mentioned "Tickford" and "162Kw", shame I can't find a picture of one, lol

I'll rip the plastic cover that sits on the power steering pump reservoir tomorrow and have a geez at the front of the head...Cheers

The head in the fairmont ghia is exactly the same as a xr6 head. Fairmont ghia had a quieter factory exhaust fitted, therefore lost a couple of killawasps!
