The other day i drove for bout 25 mins in 38 degree weather without the air con on(needs to be regassed) even though the weather was hot the car still should have stayed at the same temp it usually does. In stead it rose and fluttered around the M on normal instead of the A and L like it usually does, when i hreturned to it after half an hour or so a fair bit of coolant had come out the overflow tank, is this normal?? . I know this is a common problem for El's, is there any solution that will fix the problem for good??

Try replacing the radiator cap... It may not be sealing... Hence why it is dropping coolant...

When was the last time the condensor on the AC was cleaned? Insects block it up and as it sits in front of your radiator it will hinder air flow through the front of the car...

When was the last time the thermostat was replaced?

When was the last time the cooling system was flushed out and cleaned?

Worst comes to worst you've done a head gasket and are getting compression into cooling system causing it to pump out onto the ground... Normally water goes the other way too and you get a miss... Esp on start up...

Put the instrument cluster in diagnostic mode and actually tell us what the temp of the car is...

Cheers,
Tim

That seems normal to me. If I'm moving at about 60km/hr, it stays between M and A...closer to A. If it's stop start. Between R and M.

Just depends if you're moving or not.
