Hi

I am having problem with my EL fairmont ghia it idles fine most of the time but occasionally when i start it, it just wont idle it will stall when i put it in gear it seems to idle ok.

The other problem is when i put my foot down to overtake another car it doesnt seem to have any power it is like it is reving more but not going much quicker kind of like it feels restricted.

Hope someone can help me out with anything.

Thanks

Couple things to check..

Fuel filter,
Fuel pump?
Fuel Regulator (unplug the vacuum line off it, block the line with a bolt and start it up, if it's better the reg is fck or it's a fuel issue as the increase in pressure in the fuel rail helps, this usually indicates blocked injectors)

(Could be running out of fuel when powering on, the above will affect idle too)

O2 sensor!! When was it last replaced? (Have a lifespan of 100k km) Can cause big dramas.. Mine would not idle without my foot on the go pedal, wouldn't power on etc, turned out the O2 was f*ck and over fuelling it, therefore flooding it,

Map sensor, the vacuum line to it has a tendency to crack, (usually you will see big puffs of black smoke under any driving/idling conditions if it's f*ck)

Ignition timing,

Blocked/collapsed cat, (does it feel like it hits a wall of air when revving it out?)

Could be a number of things,
Run a diagnostic on it and pull any codes, gives you somewhere to start from atleast,
