you will have to modify the sump to clear the k frame, and the au engine doesnt have a distributor, so you will need to swap the engine loom over( the one that sits on the runners of the maniold) and where the crank angle sensor is you wil need to fit the distributor, thats all i know off the top of my head, if you do a search on the forum theres alot more info

Also AU gearbox won't fit since it is longer so the gear stick sits further back...well if you cut a hole in the trans tunnel it will fit.

You can get the sump of the AU modified to fit the E-series. Remove the sump, take it to someone to cut and weld the sump to fit.

are the autos not up to it either or is it just the t5 wont fit?

+1.
i thought the auto runs on a linkage system so the shifter doesnt attatch to the box..
so just get the longer/shorter linkage arm and all sweet.

Auto's are the same length, it is the AU T5 that is longer not the BTR. Tailshafts for auto sedan SWB for E series to the AU are the same. The E series Tailshafts for SWB are the same for auto and manual. Manual tailshaft for the Manual AU is shorter.

Here is some info I posted in another thread a while back.

Ok Some answers to you questions;

Q)- Can I use the XH engine accessories (power steering etc) on an AU motor or do all the accessories need to be AU?
A)- Best to use serpentine set up of the AU or EF/EL

Q)- Can I use the EF/EL parts on an AU motor if I can't use my XH ones?
A)- Yes, best to use an AU/BA/BF alternator as it is easier to set up and they are more readily available these days, If you use an AUI alternator you will need to change your plug, if you use AUII,AUIII,BA/BF you will be ok with the existing plug, but please check this.

Q)- Which ECU do I need?
A)- Your existing ECU will be ok if you are running a log manifold but if you convert to a BBM (Do not use the AU BBM, Use an EF/EL BBM) you will need an EL ECU Manual or do the resistor trick.

Q)- If I get it tuned afterwards, does a chip mean I can use different parts (like the ECU) if some are hard to source?
A)- Chip not required, EF/EL parts readily available.

Q)- Is there a build thread I can follow for someone else who has already done this?
A)- Yes, check Troymans thead on his AU to EA / ED or you can PM me for any info as I have done a few of these, AU to EB, EF, EL, havn't done one to XH though.

Q) why cant you use the au bbm?
A) AU BBM has sensors in different spots to EF/EL and you would need AU loom, then of course you would need AU ECU and then need to run coil packs.

Q) was planning on using el auto ecu and adding pins for the bbm solonoid and thermos.. or is it better to use an aftermarket kit to control thermos instead of the ecu??
A) EL ECU will run EL BBM as well as EL Thermos, EF & EL Thermos are different. So you won't need an after market kit to run Thermos, use EL wiring loom for the whole engine bay.

PS, Major tip, AU are coil pack so you will ne to use an EB/ED/EL dizzy, remove the drive gear from the oil drive off the AU and fit to your Dizzy, this will ensure that the gears match.

From Another Thread

Things reqired to fit AU engine to EF/EL

1) sump needs to be modified to fit K-Frame, you can cut and weld the K-Frame but that is up to you, will need engineering after being cut. You cannot use an EF/EL sump as the sump is totally different to AU.

2) Need to use AU/BF alternator or you will need to make up adapter plates to mount the EF/EL alternator. If you use an AU I alternator you will need to change the plug for the alternator to one from an AUI as these are different from the Mitsubishi alternators. Believe that the AUII & III and BA alternators have the same plug as EF/EL.

3) Remove the block where the Dizzy (EL) or cam sensor (EF) goes and remove the gear from the shaft and fit to your Dizzy (EL) or Cam Sensor (EF). This will then mean that the gears are matching and you should have no issues, there have been issues with dizzys failing when this has not been done.

4) You will need to use a EF/EL thermostat housing as these have your temp sensor and AU housings do not.

5) you will need to use the EF/EL BBM as the uppers are different to the AU. Also us the EF/EL throttle body as some of the plugs are different to the AU.

6) Use the EF/EL wiring loom.

7) you will need to tap the block with an M12 1.5 tap to take the EF/EL knock sensor, AU's use a different sensor.

8) You will need to cut the EF/EL AC pump mount spacers down to 30mm to suit the AU block as well as shortening the bolts by 10mmm to suit the serpentine belt.

9) Use the EF/EL power steering pump. This is a direct bolt up. The AU pump hose connection is different to the EF/EL.

10) You do not need to change the Harmonic balancer for EL (Dizzy) but you will need to fit an EF balancer if using coil pack.

11) If fitting to EF you will need to use your original Coil Pack or an AUI coil pack as these are different to AUII & III. (different plug)

12) you can use the AU head or fit you EF/EL head, that is up to you.
