Mate, have you checked your injectors?
Could be worthwhile cleaning out your ISC as well, just take it off, put some turps or wd40 in there and shake it like crazy. then put it back on with a new gasket (cardboard will do)
cheers,
Mike

Could also be the TPS is faulty or out of calibration. I think there is a calibration procedure in the owners manaual for this.

get your self a set of exchanged service injectors or take yours to afuel injection specialist and have them cleaned
also get your tps checked get some one how has a lab scope check it for voltage sweep could have a voltage clitch at certain point
also make sure you have good alternator charging and clean earth points with less than 300mv or no electrical componet or sensor can work properly

hey guys I also forgot to mention that the timing is advanced as far as the dizzy can turn because if I set the timing in the correct stop it nearly stalls and has no power, do you think the problem is related to the hesitation. The problem sounds the same as fifyone EL with the chugging and surging at speed topic.

thats because you haven't followed the correct procedure to set the timing on a El falcon.

1) Short top and bottom diagnostic pins on the far left of the diagnostic connector under fuse panel.
2) start car, revs should rise an fall(makesure a./c is off).
3) NOW WAIT APPROX 2MINS WITH THE ENGINE AT IDLE, IT SHOULD STUMBLE AND NEARLY STALL. tHAT INDICATES THE ECU IS IN STATIC TIMING.
4) You now a further 2mins to set the timing correctly. swicth ign off and remove shorting pins.

btw what you have been doing is just retarding the timing as the ecu normally runs about 16degrees advanced BTDC in normal conditions on El's..

Tickford6 this should become a STICKY, about 20th time i have had to post this..............

Ok Iv done the timing properly and it has helped but still hesitates a little bit. Can the fuel pressure be checked while driving?

I had this exact problem with my ED Wagon (XH motor and T5, on 17s). Turned out my main coil lead was shorting on the dipstick tube. Bent the head of the lead to give more clearance, no more stutter. Get a new coil while you're at it - it's cheap insurance.

History of my trials to resolve this.
Checked injectors - fine ( Ford injectors can cope with a LOT of crap in them, I know this for a fact. When they do play up they do so across the rev range, they are pretty easy to ungunkify when you pull the fuel rail and take each one out for some TLC)
Changed inlet manifold Gasket - old one fine :(
Changed all leads and plugs including main initially.
Swapped computer for a known good one.

I actually didn't find what was wrong until it got so bad the car would hardly run. I was parked of the road with my head under the bonnet, a bit cranky, it was getting towards dusk and the engine bay was getting darker. I didn't know the gods were smiling and creating the perfect conditions for me. As I watched the motor stutter and miss, I saw a faint purple glow from under the inlet manifold, down near the head of the coil, that could only be seen in dim light conditions. "What's a purple light doing down there?" I thought, sticking an eyeball over a convenient gap in the works to get the best view. A beautiful little purple spark was continuously leaping from where the main coil lead emerged from it's cap and the dipstick tube. I found a stick of the correct dimensions to fit, pushed the lead over away from the tube. The spark stopped the engine sped up, smoothed out, and started idling properly. I little tear welled up in my eye. My car was back.
