Just picked up yet another ride - EL Gli Wagon.
Almost at any given time it will misfire/surge, like its losing spark.
It does not have a blown head gasket.
I had an old ecu laying around here at home, i threw that in and it's still the same.
Leads test fine, plugs are fairly new too.
I bumped the timing up a bit and it seems to have found more power but that miss is still there.
Hot or cold temp, it does not matter, but when its cold you can have your foot flat to the floor and it will literally idle down the street until it picks up 3000rpm or so.
Auto is also not in limp home mode, i have all 4 gears.

Mmy guess is it's either dizzy or coil
Your thoughts?

a cruide trick i was told was to poor water down over the manifold (therefore the coil)

the most common prob is hairline cracks in the coil where it mounts and when water gets in it shorts out.

so if the car stops, theres your answer. but as i said, cruide

Coil, TFI , loom or battery connections...
Fuel supply? Filter, pump ??
Check under bonnet at night with engine runing...
Any ignition leaks should show up....

battery connections are exellent.
i personally dont think its fuel as it's backfired on me a few times. i could be wrong though, but i will check pressure/s if all else fails.
the injectors were cleaned by the previous owner too.
i'll try looking for an ignition leak, thanks for the tips guys.

As someone has mentioned, maybe fuel filter. Checked the TFI module as well?

Are you getting a good enough spark? maybe one of the leads might be wearing out but just doesn't show until under load.

Timing might be out too and if you have already fixed your timing, could the balancer have moved?

ok its definitely not timing, coil, rotor, rotor button or plugs.
got the diagnostics onto it, map sensor, isc, tps, p/steer switch, all are good and working.

leads are fine, so the only thing left ignition wise is the distributor.

anyone got one laying around?!

I've got one...but not sure if it is in any better condition then yours and I'm in Melbourne.

sounds like the cat to me Pauk, just pull it off, and test it by putting some Rebar through it

threw another dizzy in, replaced map sensor, tps (all working off a mates car), put a new fuel filter in too.

it kinda plays up alot when you drive it 1/4 throttle as opposed to WOT or half throttle.

it's not a blocked cat as the pressure coming out is normal.

now i'm really leaning towards injectors.

Why don't you swap the injectors and fuel rail over between your EF & EL, and see if that makes a diff ??

Well you do have the luxury that a lot of parts will swap over - so you may as well use it.
Next I'd suggest testing fuel pump pressure - hopefully that's not it, as a wagon one is a bit of a PITA to change.
