just recently i've noticed a really annoying ticking sound coming from the right side of the engine bay under the inlet manifold.

Can anyone tell me what i've broken?

How loud is it?

Fuel injectors usually make a very faint ticking sound, you need to get fairly close to hear it. If its louder than that it might be a lifter.

Well I doubt its your injectors, more likely a lifter. How old is your oil? is the oil level ok?

Have a close listen along the rocker cover, you should be able to tell if its a lifter. You may have a faulty one.

It can also be a lead shorting out. Open the bonnet at night and start up and you may see the leads sparking

if it was a lead you would feel the engine missing. you can pin point it by getting a long shaft screw driver and placing the tip of it on various parts of engine and the handle on your ear, be careful not to get near moving parts or high voltage like spark plugs and leads.

I have 1 now, but it only started once i had my injectors done( i think) well thats the first time i noticed it anyway. I will try the spark at night thing. My car has got a rough idle, even after injectors cleaned and major service. What could it be???
