Hey guys

I am after a little advice. I recently replaced my engine as it looked like it had blown a HG or at least corroded the block. The waterpump was f**k as was the thermo stat.
Anyway, all was good and the car was running great until recently.
It has started making a funny sound. It is hard to describe but it sort of sounds like a gurgle somewhere in the block/head.

The engine has a warranty of 6 months but it was done in canberra and I am in Sydney.

Anyway I was wondering if anyone had come across something like this or knows what the sound might be???

The radiator has been tested and was fine, new water pump and the overflow bottle has not dropped much at all since the engine was replaced.

anyway help would be great

cheers

James

Is it making a thumping sound?
Kind of like a little man inside tapping with a hammer?
Is this while it's running or after you turn it off?

sounds like to much oil causing the crankshaft to make this gurgling noise...drop some oil and see if it does it.

Things like that are hard to describe, and hard to tell without hearing it for ourselves.

The thumping i was talking about is usually caused by a blockage in the cooling system... And yes it sounds like a man inside with a hammer, usually after you turn it off.

hmmm oil level is lower than the halfway mark on the dipstick, or just spot on.

yeah i know, i guess best thing is to take it to a mechanic and get him to have a quick listen.

i would like to take it to the place that did the work but am not 100% taking it on a 300km drive until i know what is wrong. there is only a soud when engine running.

Yeah i wouldn't be taking the trip either, maybe take it somewhere else to diagnose and if it's cheap enough then get them to do it.

My old Suzuki Swift made a horrible gurgling noise, turned out the water pump was leaking coolant..

i would be surprised if that were the case and EXTREMELY p****d considering I just had a grand new one put in in june. I guess I really just need to get a competant mechanic to have a squiz.

Was hoping that someone might have encounered something similar.

well a mate had the same noise and it turned out to be a worn crankshaft....very expensive to replace $1000+...so he got a second hand engine filled with super thin oil(dumb C***)...what viscosity oil are you using?

well the engine has a 6 month warranty so not too worried about cost etc. identifcation is really the issue.

I cannot remember the oil but it was put in when the engine was replaced. The brand begins with M and is australian made. The viscosity was not exactly the same as what the manufacturer says closer to a diesel viscosity from memroy. i remeber questioning them and they said they did not put anything but this oil in cars they serviced. The work was done by Ford spares in canberra.
wish i could remeber the name of the oil, not motorcraft.
cheers

the noise you hear is most likey the water in your motor expanding and the r/cap is releseing the hot water into the coolent bottle next time you get it hot turn off the motor get under the bonnet and put your ear next to coolent over flow bottle and see if its from there
the coolent go in and out of this all the time when the engine is hot it fills up but when it get cooler it empty back into the motor

your engine may begetting to hot flash the radator
at work drive a hilux 4x4 that in the summer if driven hard over heated so when you turn off motor it boiled into this overflow bottle making noise

hey mate

thanx for the reply

the sound is definately coming from the engine and not the overflow bottle. I will have another listen tomorrow though. I am pretty sure the sure is only a recent thing too.
When I went to pick it up when the engine was first put in, the car was warmed up from cold and the only sound I could here was the injectors ticking. me and the mechanic both remarked about this.
