It will just be the belt slipping, common problem on cars especially on start up, has no affect on the cars performance or drive ability, but fairly sure if you replace it should go away, or you can buy some belt dressing stuff in a can (forget the name of it). But other than that nothing you can do.

Check around the aircon pulley as to why it may be slipping.

3.8? don't you mean 3.9L? and it'll be the alternator belt slipping when you load it up. tighten it asap or it may throw it off and you'll cook it because it also runs the water pump. my car has thrown the alternator belt before. i had my stereo on and didn't hear it squeeling until i got into my driveway. then it threw the belt in my driveway. convenient

Turn the lights and the hazards on, see if it gets worse/louder. If it does get worse when theres load on the power, then you have to re adjust the position of the alternator via 2 bolts. Thats what i was when mine was doing it

thats the stupidest thing i've ever heard. all i did to stop it squeeling with the bass tones was fit a new belt, tighten the s**t out of it, and use a spray of belt grip. hasn't given me trouble yet.
i loaded it up with hazards, fan, demister, stereo, high beams, brake lights. no noises

if the belt is still in good condition not stiff or cracked and not too loose?? instead of tightening the crap out of it putting extra load on the bearings and pulleys, use some dry soap on the running surface of the belt... this will fix the squeel on cold starts

The alt belts seem to get loose really easily. Its a bad design for tightening.
Mine does it every morn. But I took my mono and subs out so hopefully it won't anymore.

the standard EB tightening method is stupid. thats why people do serpentine belt conversions. i can't be a**ed though so i'll just keep tightening lol.

It will snap if its too tight also. Near new belt on my ED snapped big time after giving it a bootful in first to 5000rpm+. It wasnt long after I had tightened it to try and get rid of the morning squeel.

Funny thing is just about every new Corolla does the same thing.
They dont have proper tensioners either, its just like the EA/ED setup

With ours how it has the tracks up the rail. Previous owners tried to tighten it before losening the othert nut and just stripped the teeth off so I had to put on a different one. What a b**ch of a job that was.

If it's alternator belt or power steering belt squeal, the belt will need to be checked, and if it's not cracked, torn or too stretched, just tension it up as per the workshop manual, and the squeal should go away, unless you have oil leaking onto the belt.

I find the EA-ED belt tension pretty easy to do, and i check it at every 5000km service, but usually only adjust it every 10,000kms. When i upgraded to a EF 110amp alternator, i modified it with a thread & the EB bracket slightly so it bolts up & tensions just like the factory intended. No issues with belt squeal inside normal service schedule.

I have a funny squeal noise (not from under the bonnet, in the cabin), but it's very high pitched, sometimes on start up, sometimes when the car is running, it squeals for about 5 seconds then goes away. I figured it out the other day. I have a vacume leak in the climate control vac distribution block. Going to deal with it when i pull the dash out next.

Cheers

ToranaGuy
