( I've posted on the FordForums, however the traffic flow throughout their site isn't the best as of now, and i really need some expertise on this )

I've seen multiple posts on various forums on how to test a falcons 02 sensor, my vehicle happens to be a first series EA MPI manual, runs fine, just started drinking fuel.

I've backprobed the black signal wire, and earthed the multimeter to the battery. When dead cold, i'm getting 3.8 volts from the black wire on both spare sensors i have. When at operating temperature, i get around 2 volts at the black signal wire.

I personally don't see how this is possible, am i testing this sensor the incorrect way? I've got the black wire from the connector backprobed while running / reading voltage. Any info would be greatly appreciated, cheers.

Well over 10 years old now, however i get the same voltage with an 02 sensor from a known good engine. I didn't think 02 sensors could go over 1 volt.

If it's 10 years old then i will bet good money that it is stuffed. They are really only good for around 70,000 to 90,000km.

Yeah, i think it's due for a replacement, but in your lifetime have you ever seen an 02 go over 1 volt like this? Mind you the voltage goes DOWN as it warms up.

Have you checked the vacuum hose for the MAP sensor....they crack/split down at the intake manifold.....this will make them use fuel.

Believe me i have, i'm just interested in this 02 sensor because the Black Signal wire ( not the two white wires, heater + & - ) Seems to be giving me an awful high voltage, even the spare i have from a good working engine, maybe Ford can tell me why, that's if i'm not charged over the phone ofcourse!

Have you checked that it switches when the engine is hot ???

Doesn't really " Switch ", It just starts from 3.6 volts when dead cold, and slowly goes down to 2 volts as it warms up. ( Both sensors )

I still say the sensor is stuffed.

Well apparently both of them are absolutely dead.

Picked up a pencil torch ( Still gets it nice and hot ) Bench tested it with a multimeter and they produce a whopping 0 voltage. This complies with the code 41 ( Too lean, voltage too low ) and the terrible fuel economy, possibly the random exhaust popping.

Going to order in a new 02, will post back results.

I had recent O2 sensor issues on my EA. The ECU will code it if it is bad. Run the full code diagnostic and see if it comes up. In any case O2 sensors cheap these days.
