how ya goin. im having a proplem with my ef fairmont.. i seem to have a flat-spot at about 3000 - 3500 revs. i have no idea what it is.. it just drops all acceleration and ..well backfires rapidly i guess.. if you guys have ANY IDEA what it is please get back to me.. its got me F**ked

title suggestion : flat spot issues! please help!

As for your problem.. does it sound like your rev limiter, or sort of like a truck stopping using compression braking?

come to think of it.. yes it does sound like my rev limiter..

the only sujestions ive had so far is to reset my ecu.. i was gonna do it this weekend.. i looked at the proper proceedure in the ecu forum. so it should be all sweet.. im just really hoping thats the problem.

not the ECU.. firstly check your relay!!
don't know where yours is, but it's the ignition relay.

Also, your coil is a suspect, and so are your leads, spark plugs, and distributor cap/rotor button.

Leave the coil for now, and when were the last time you replaced the above?

Also if you have a mate with a falcon, snatch his coil temporarily, and stick it on yours (piss easy job), and go for a drive.
