I think I know which way I'm going now.....

Does that mean you are going to get the reco engine?

No. Not at that price. I might have to not do the seals now, I suspect the coolant is coming from under the water pump. So might be a water pump replacement instead.

I also notice that the oil collecting under the pump in that area is sludgy as it seems to be mixing with the coolant.

Any chance oil could be leaking from there also?

By the way I might add, that when the head gasket was done, the mechanic said there was no need for sealant to be used with these new gaskets. I'm 99% sure no sealant was used. I remember being quite unhappy about what they were telling me.

But I'm also pretty sure it wasn't a cork gasket either. Not the AU one, but a dark colored metal one possibly?

How much do you expect to pay for a reco engine fitted? I am assuming for that price it would be a full job, not just reringing and replacing with s**t bearings like the $800 engines on ebay.

Gotta go down the cheapest route at this stage man, just organised a loan to have a house built.

Already on top of the 1162 is now a water pump that is s**t itself. So that whould have taken the other option over 3000 already.

All done and looking good.

2 problems after the service.

1. I now have a bit of knocking/creaking in the steering when braking and turning into tight corners or carpark etc.
I suppose you have to expect something not to be 100% after a service like that.
I'm taking it back, but what do you guys think would cause that. Wasn't happening before.

2. My sump plug is leaking a little bit. At the time Ford said it didn't need a rubber o-ring or anything. Mine hasn't got a washer or anything at all. Should it have one?
