Hi there,

I recently bought a '72 Mercedes W108 that has an XH motor and box conversion done (Full XH wiring and ECU). The motor and box are both caput so I am looking at what options I have for potentially a different Ford 4.0. I would probably like to stick with the SOHC to avoid undoing all of the work the previous owner did doing the XH conversion (assuming that almost everything would need changing in order to drop a DOHC in).

I am thinking maybe EB-EL XR6 motor? I guess my question is what part of the loom would need changing? Would a different ECU plug straight in? Would the block engine mount points be the same?

Thanks!
Kenny

What manifold is fitted to the engine?

Not knowing how the Merc K Frame looks, how much cleqarance is there between the front of the sump and the K Frame? Pics would help.

Interseting sump.

I assume that it has been modified to suit the Merc?

What side is the oil dipstick on, drivers or passenger side?

Drivers side - you can see it in IMG 2039 just behind the power steering pump.

I thought the sump was funny lookin too...looks like extra depth has been added..? Will have to use this sump on the new motor id say.

Yes, odd setup, considering that the dipstick is on the passenger side in the falcon up through the intake manifold.

I was going to suggest using an AU motor but with that sump setup it may prove difficult. You can't use the sump you have on a AU bottom end.

Any of the EB - EL engines will drop in using your sump. You will need the EL ECU to operate the BBM, as well as the vaccum setup.

Awesome - thanks for help.

Could you elaborate on the EL vacuum setup?

Thanks for that.

If I went an EF motor would I have to change the loom? Given that EF has coil packs?

Is your motor currently coil pack?
