Hey guys,
Right so, I just bought an ef fairmont from a chick for $300. she thought it needed a new motor but i thought just plugs and leads. it has 4 bald tyres one of which is flat and not coming back, so so mags, no rego. but other than that it seems quite ok.
As this is the first time i have ever played with a ford ive come across a problem, i changed the plugs and leads but... with no hoist and no skinny arms i pulled the intake manifold off. i found that there was quite a lot of fuel/oil sitting in the lower half of the intake man. So what causes this and how do i fix it? i gathered that it might be from the motor not firing right and not combusting all of the fuel...maybe..????
Also i have been told two different stories that are playing with my head because i cant seem to find any answers on here. asking about where the leads go to from the coil packs... from front to back is the order of the pistons 1,2,3,4,5,6 or is it 1,5,3,6,2,4?????????????????

My thoughts and plans are to get the car running and registered then turbo it. running low boost to start will the standard injectors be ok for now??
Any help would be truley appreciated,

being an ef it should be coil pack, and there are number's on the coil pack, just put no.1 lead on the coil pack to number one cylinder on the engine. cylinder's are 1 at the front, 6 at the back and yes the firing order is 1,5,3,6,2,4.

sweet, cheers mate,

also now that the plugs are right its still sounds quite rough.. are these motors usually quite loud???

kind of, usually the injectors are the loudest , u can hear them ticking away over the engine idleing. if it's still running rough you might have a blocked injector, a mate had this problem with the ones he put in his ef. have you changed the plugs aswell??? this could cause it to run rough. unless by some rare chance u got a lumpy cam in it lol

Haha lumpy cam I wish lol. Yeah did new plugs aswell. Might buy some injector cleaner. My main concern tho is the excess fuel oil mix sitting in the lower half of the intake manifold.

You could change it to an AU, PCV valve....the grey ones...helps stop this.

Get a new one, and a gromet too, you'll break them trying to get it out of the gromet that has gone rock hard.

I know this is old, however changing a PCV valve, from grey plastic ones to say the metal bodied FuelMiser one, would this be an issue in result or same, same?

These things suck a lot of oil especially at higher RPM into the manifold, which means people think you have burnt your rings if you step of gas and back on, as your engine sucks oil in from the manifold. So, heavier PCV always helps, along with editing the hose at back of valve cover without a valve on it at all...
