I have my BA engine rebuilt because of main/conrod bearings worn.
But I forgot to install the steel gasket between engine and transmission case, it's about 1.5mm thick.
It's like the transmission case moves forward for 1.5mm.

Here comes my worries.
So the torque conver input shaft has a 1.5mm displacement to transmission case and same does the
transmission output shaft to the case.
I know there is some free movement for torque conver input shaft and transmission output shaft. But
will the extra 1.5mm displacement cause any problem, like damaging sealing?

It's a big job to put the gasket in place on the driveway. I lost 3+ kg in rebuilding engine....

Thinking the same reason... Ford wouldn't have gone to all the trouble to draw a design and set up a laser cutter to make them if it wasn't required...

I doubt it was clearance on the torque converter but... Probably has something else to do with twisting loads or something weird and wonderful like that...

Cheers,
Tim

With tha additional 1.5mm, the Torque Convertor is going further into the gearbox.

This additional length can cause the convertor spigot to rub on the pump housing, chewing it out and stuffing the pump and possibly the box.

thanks for all your comments
would put it back in place, unbolt the transmission should be an easier way than moving the engine
