Any particular reason for changing the Fuel Filter?

What Car is it? is it an EA or something?

Edit, Just checked beside your name, is it an EL Futura? how many km's has the car done? you say you have a log book, if you want you can list what's been done in the past?

I was thinking you should try and look at ignition first if it's lacking power.... such as resistance in the leads, those sorts of things.

If you really want, you could do a compression test?

If thats all good you can look at fuel ;), thats how I would do it.

I have never replaced a fuel filter in a ford yet, have you got a Ford Workshop Manual?

If you've Replaced that stuff, then in most cases you should be all set, and you can start looking into fuel. Another suggestion, although it's not common, you could also test the fuel injector's to make sure they aren't clogged. Just a suggestion though. Let us know if replaceing the Fuel Filter helps ;)

yup same place, easy as to replace.

1st thing idd suggest is get a workshop book for your car as it has step by steps on things like this.

from memory procedure goes like (dont quote me ive had a few to drink tonight :P )
-disconect fuel pump wire
-run engine till stall (in theory this will stop you getting covered in unleaded... yeah right)
-get under car remove/replace fuel filter
-plug fuel pump back in.

reminds me i have to swap mine out :P

i changed mine a few weeks ago so pretty much anyone can do it :) left it overnight and it had lost fuel pressure by then. wear eye protection in case it sprays out.

As rushed suggested

once you have located the fuel filter, let it be until you depressurize the fuel line. You can do it by either disconnecting the fuel pump or removing the fuel pump relay (fuel pump can be accessed via an access hole in the boot...has a bunch of screws that need to be undone, fuel relay is in the engine bay somewhere I forget). Once disconnected, start the car till it stalls or doesn't start at all, your fuel line is now depressurized. Raise the car and then undo the bolts on either end of the filter, one spanner on the filter and one spanner on the nut...make sure the spanners fit nicely on the nut or else you might round them, and that will cause more headaches. When you undo the bolts...make sure you have something to cover your eyes with just in case excess fuel leaks out onto your face (been there done that, no a pretty sight). If you want you can use a tin can to catch some of the excess fuel, if not let it go on the floor. About 100 - 200mL of fuel may leak. once it's slowed down leaking just remove the fuel filter from the holder and replace with new one. tighten the nuts up nice and firm, connect fuel pump and let the car prime (car still raised). see if there are any leaks over a minute or so. If none, drop the car down and start her up, check again for leaks.

Hopefully that helps mate...just be careful with getting fuel in your eyes...it burns like a mofo.

phong =P~
