If you have one that shows what the 4 pin plug from the so-call 'idle motor' goes to then that would be great - otherwise will get the test light out and try to figure it tomorrow.

Apparently it's a wire that connects to possibly pin 67 of the engine loom and keeps the engine idling right when no acceleration is applied from what I can tell. It's going to be one of the four wires

from the CFI model?

Yep, the four wires were used on the CFI and apparently only one is used for MPFI so just trying to figure which one

Thanks mate, looks like my wiring should be correct - now I'm wondering if I connected the vacuum lines wrong :?

I should really have taken photos or marked things before I pulled the donor car apart...

And the problems just keep coming....

Sorted all my vacuum lines, but there is still an issue.

A bit sluggish, and whenever I touch the accelerator, there is a ticking sound which appears to come from the ECU (or that area of the car). The noise goes away if I take my foot off the pedal... Weird.

Finally there is progress! :D

Turns out the fuel pressure regulator was dead, and pressure at the rail was far to high, causing the sluggish feel and the engine missing and running like a sack of hammers...

Changed that part and hey presto, running a lot better (and got rid of the black smoke).

The ticking noise was a faulty charcoal canister purge solenoid. Yanked one out of my donor wagon and voila, no more ticking!

lol ..... so all good now??

Well it will be...

Still going to change the head gasket and have the head machined, some painting to do and other little bits and pieces...

Also, the diagnostic wire that is meant to be earthed in order to be able to set the timing doesn't appear to do anything, so engine still hunts while messing with it and it makes it a pain to try and get the timing right :|

But short answer is yeah it runs a lot better :P
