what mods have you done to want more fuel?

unless done lots of mods, the XR6 will just make it run rich and reduce power.

definitely get all your mods done before you get it tuned

Probably yes.

It seems that the standard fuel system (standard injectors and reg) starts to struggle keeping up at 135-140rwkw. At this point a 300kpa reg will give you more fuel at WOT but also at idle and partial throttle. Without tuning the ecu results can be hit and miss. What the ecu does over time is learn that the engine tends to run rich the end result being that the ecu injects less fuel to compensate.

If you had a 300kpa reg and a custom tuned edit you could get the balance right.

Who knows why the xr6 got the bigger reg. The few little mods they did might have pushed the injector duty cycle above some arbitrary number ford decided was the limit so it got a bigger reg. Maybe it was just to give a little bit more of a safety margin in the sports models. Maybe it was just something else they could easily change to set the xr6's apart from the other engines.
