I know all the EB2 onwards had gear reduction starters, But did not know there was a newer style out? ... got any part numbers? ..

if you ring bosch, they should be able to tell you.
brisco butler in brisbane is who we deal with. if we order a 6cyl starter, they send us the permanent magnet gear reduction one.

As any ford factory trained tech knows.that knocking noise is actually part of the crank slapping in the oil. mine does it on a slight incline too. liquid always fills its confines level right? take a 600 ml coke bottle half full and tilt it. notice the coke stays level on top? picture that coke is oil and that bottle is your sump. the level at the back of the sump is higher than normal due to the incline and the coke bottle theory if i may call it that. run your car on the slop then on a flat. ask yourself where it makes the noise and where it does not. if it makes the noise on the flat you need to ask how much oil did i put in last service. if you cant work it out i cant help you and maybe you have issues , if i have missed anything fill me in on it

isnt the slapping noise the end of the crank slapping in the oil in the sump?

Yes it is, when parked on an angle the crank counterweights hit the oil

As I said
